Who it suits
Best for most people
The highest average here: 4.5 out of 5 at TechRadar and Tom's Guide, 4 at PCMag, with all three praising its performance. Tom's Guide names the slim PS5 its best console overall, and Wirecutter its top PlayStation pick. It is the one of Sony's three current consoles with a disc drive built in.
Where it falls down. Both TechRadar and Tom's Guide count the extra cost of the vertical stand against it, and PCMag found it not much smaller than the original. At $649 on PlayStation Direct it costs about $150 more than a Switch 2.
Where this sits against the alternatives
This product is one of the picks on Reviews Rate the $649 PS5 Highest of Six Consoles, which compares it against the others that cleared the same three-outlet bar.
