AppleCare One Pays Off on Pricey Devices, Not Cheap Ones

Apple’s US prices, 5 October: annual AppleCare+ undercuts One on a budget trio, and One pools theft claims at three a year.

AppleCare One vs three AppleCare+ plans, US monthly prices from apple.com/applecare, read 5 October 2026. iPhone 17, Apple Watch Series 12 and AirPods Pro 3: AppleCare+ $19.97 a month, One $19.99, 2 cents more. iPhone 18 Pro, iPad Air 11-inch and Apple Watch Series 12: AppleCare+ $26.47, One $19.99, $6.48 less. iPhone 18 Pro, MacBook Pro 14-inch and iPad Pro 13-inch: AppleCare+ $36.97, One $19.99, $16.98 less. Billed yearly, the first trio's AppleCare+ is $39.91 a year cheaper. Extra devices on One Individual cost $5.99 a month each; One Family is $49.99 a month.

AppleCare One Individual costs $19.99 a month for three Apple devices, so it is cheaper than separate AppleCare+ plans once those three plans add up to more than $19.99 a month. An iPhone 18 Pro, iPad Air 11-inch and Apple Watch Series 12 come to $26.47 a month on AppleCare+, so One saves $6.48. An iPhone 17, Watch Series 12 and AirPods Pro 3 come to $19.97, two cents under One.

All prices here are Apple’s US list prices from apple.com/applecare, read on 5 October 2026, before tax. Apple shows One only as a monthly price, so its yearly figure below is twelve months at that price.

The arithmetic

Devices AppleCare+ a month AppleCare+ a year AppleCare One One against AppleCare+
iPhone 17e, Watch SE 3 $13.98 $139.98 $19.99 ($239.88 a year) $6.01 a month more
iPhone 17, Watch Series 12, AirPods Pro 3 $19.97 $199.97 $19.99 ($239.88) $0.02 a month more; $39.91 a year more than yearly AppleCare+
iPhone 18 Pro, iPad Air 11-inch (M4) (affiliate link to Amazon, opens in a new tab), Watch Series 12 (affiliate link to Amazon, opens in a new tab) $26.47 $264.97 $19.99 ($239.88) $6.48 a month less; $25.09 a year less
iPhone 18 Pro, MacBook Pro 14-inch, iPad Pro 13-inch (M5) $36.97 $369.97 $19.99 ($239.88) $16.98 a month less; $130.09 a year less
iPhone 18 Pro, MacBook Air 13-inch, Watch Series 12, AirPods Pro 3 $29.46 $294.96 $25.98 with one add-on ($311.76) $3.48 a month less; $16.80 a year more than yearly AppleCare+
Family: two iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 17, iPad Air 11-inch, MacBook Air 13-inch $56.95 $569.95 $49.99 Family ($599.88) $6.96 a month less; $29.93 a year more than yearly AppleCare+

The per-device AppleCare+ prices behind those sums, monthly and yearly, from Apple’s own model tables:

Device Monthly Yearly
iPhone 17e $10.99 $109.99
iPhone 17 $12.99 $129.99
iPhone 18 Pro $14.99 $149.99
iPad Air 11-inch (M4) (affiliate link to Amazon, opens in a new tab) $6.49 $64.99
iPad Pro 13-inch (M5) $11.49 $114.99
MacBook Air 13-inch $7.49 $74.99
MacBook Pro 14-inch $10.49 $104.99
Apple Watch SE 3 $2.99 $29.99
Apple Watch Series 12 (affiliate link to Amazon, opens in a new tab) $4.99 $49.99
AirPods Pro 3 $1.99 $19.99

Three things that decide it

How you pay for AppleCare+. Apple prices a year of AppleCare+ at about ten months of the monthly plan: $129.99 a year against $12.99 a month for an iPhone 17. Against yearly AppleCare+, One loses two of the rows it wins on monthly prices. Apple’s page lists One only per month, while it gives AppleCare+ a yearly price on the same page.

Which devices fill the three slots. Apple said at launch that One’s price “is the same regardless of the products that are covered”. That makes it worth most on the devices that cost most to cover: a MacBook Pro 16-inch is $15.49 a month on AppleCare+, and an iPhone Duo is $19.99, the whole price of One Individual on its own. AirPods 5 cost $1.49 a month to cover separately, and an Apple TV $0.99.

The fourth device. Each extra device on Individual is $5.99 a month. That is less than AppleCare+ for any iPhone Apple lists, the same as for an Apple Watch Ultra 4, and more than for any AirPods, a Watch Series 12 or SE 3, a Mac mini ($3.99), a MacBook Neo, or a base iPad or iPad mini ($5.49 each). On Individual you choose which devices to cover, so a cheap fourth device can stay on its own AppleCare+ plan. Family has no such choice to make: it adds every eligible device in the Family Sharing group at the one price.

What One covers, in Apple’s words

Apple describes both One plans as “All AppleCare+ benefits, with theft and loss coverage for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch”. Both kinds of plan replace a battery “at no extra charge if the capacity drops below 80 percent”, which matters if your phone is near that line; a battery for an iPhone 14 or later costs $99 to $129 out of warranty, and you can see where yours stands in the battery health screen.

The repair costs do not change. Apple’s fees page applies one list to “AppleCare+, AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, AppleCare One”: for an iPhone, $29 for screen and back glass damage, $99 for other accidental damage and $149 for theft and loss. An Apple Watch is $69 for accidental damage ($79 for Ultra and Hermès) and $119 for theft or loss; an iPad is $129 for theft or loss.

Theft and loss claims are pooled. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss gives “up to two claims per year” on each device. One Individual allows three theft and loss claims a year across the whole plan, and Family six. Apple’s words are “up to three total claims per year” and “up to six total claims per year”. Three separate AppleCare+ plans with theft and loss would allow two claims each.

One adds a cover Apple’s page does not list for AppleCare+. The page’s insurance footnote describes AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss as insurance “for theft and loss” and AppleCare One as insurance “for theft, loss, and surge protection”. It does not say what the surge protection covers, and refers readers to the certificate of coverage for their state.

The limits Apple sets on One:

  • Age. “Devices must be less than 4 years old and headphones must be less than 1 year old”, and an added device “may require inspection and a diagnostic check”. AppleCare+ can be bought through Settings only within 60 days of a new Apple purchase, so for a device past that window One is the AppleCare route Apple’s page offers.
  • Ownership. A device must be associated with your Apple Account, or with the Family Sharing group on Family. If another Apple Account signs in to a covered device, it leaves your plan after 24 hours.
  • Other blocks. Apple lists a failed device check, a service in progress, Lost Mode, the country where the device was bought, and cover under another AppleCare product.
  • Apple Vision Pro. One per Individual plan, and no theft or loss cover on either kind of plan.
  • Where. Individual is sold in the US, UK, Australia, France and Germany. Family is US only, and launched on 14 September 2026.

Before you switch

Adding a device that already has AppleCare+ cancels that plan, with a refund for the unexpired share. If the AppleCare+ plan was paid for upfront, Apple sends the refund as an Apple Gift Card. The support article’s wording is “paid upfront in full”. That matters most to anyone who paid for a year or more of AppleCare+ upfront.

Two smaller rules: removing any device from an Individual plan that has add-ons cancels one add-on subscription, and removing every device keeps the plan running to the end of the billing cycle.

One is also one more monthly charge, the kind our list of things that now need a subscription keeps growing. Whether any cover is worth having is a separate question from which plan is cheaper; the FTC’s test, in our guide to the extended warranty offered at checkout, is whether it covers more than the warranty you already have.

Questions people ask

Is AppleCare One cheaper than AppleCare+?

It depends on the devices. One Individual is $19.99 a month for three. On an iPhone 18 Pro, iPad Air 11-inch and Apple Watch Series 12, monthly AppleCare+ totals $26.47, so One is cheaper. On an iPhone 17, Watch Series 12 and AirPods Pro 3 it totals $19.97, so it is not.

How much is AppleCare One a month?

In the US, AppleCare One Individual is $19.99 a month for up to three devices, plus $5.99 a month for each device after that. AppleCare One Family is $49.99 a month for every eligible device in a Family Sharing group of up to six people. Prices read on apple.com on 5 October 2026.

Can I add an old iPhone to AppleCare One?

Yes, if it is less than four years old, in good condition and linked to your Apple Account. Apple may run a diagnostic check or ask for an inspection first. Headphones must be less than a year old. Apple lists Lost Mode and a repair in progress among the things that can block a device.

Does AppleCare One cover theft and loss?

Yes, for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, with a deductible per claim, $149 for an iPhone. Claims are a shared total: three a year on Individual and six on Family. Separate AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss plans allow two claims a year each. Apple Vision Pro has no theft and loss cover on either.

What happens to my AppleCare+ if I switch to AppleCare One?

Apple cancels the AppleCare+ plan on that device and refunds the unexpired share. If you paid for the AppleCare+ plan upfront in full, Apple says the refund comes as an Apple Gift Card rather than money back.

Is AppleCare One Family cheaper than separate plans?

For two iPhone 18 Pros, an iPhone 17, an iPad Air 11-inch and a MacBook Air 13-inch, monthly AppleCare+ totals $56.95 against Family’s $49.99. Billed yearly, the same AppleCare+ plans total $569.95, which is $29.93 less than 12 months of Family. Family is sold only in the US.

How we researched this

No one at bitcritiq has handled this product. Everything here comes from published sources, listed below.

What this cannot tell you
This compares Apple's published prices and terms. It does not say whether cover is worth buying, which turns on how often you break or lose things, a number neither Apple nor we can give you. We did not read the full state-by-state AppleCare One Terms and Conditions, which Apple publishes as PDFs per state; the coverage wording quoted here is from Apple's AppleCare page and support article. Prices exclude tax and are US list prices on one day. Apple's page shows One only as a monthly price, so the yearly One figures are 12 months at that price, not a yearly plan Apple sells. We have not bought or claimed on either plan.
How we chose this, and what we did
Why this subject
Apple now sells three ways to cover the same devices: AppleCare+ per device, AppleCare One Individual since July 2025, and AppleCare One Family since 14 September 2026. Apple's page calls One “more value” for multiple devices without showing the sum, and the sum depends on which devices and how AppleCare+ is billed. So we did the sums with Apple's own price lists.
How we looked at it
Every price is from Apple's US AppleCare page, apple.com/applecare, including the per-model “All model pricing” tables for iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and headphones, read through a browser on 5 October 2026. Service fees and deductibles are from Apple's Fees and Deductibles page; eligibility, claim limits and switching rules from that page's footnotes and FAQ and from Apple Support 122224 (published 14 September 2026); launch facts from Apple's newsroom releases of 23 July 2025 and 11 September 2026. Sums, differences and the 12-month figures for One are our arithmetic.
