Best Buy’s Price Match Excludes Prime-Only Deals
Amazon is on Best Buy’s competitor list, but member-only prices are not. Walmart and Target do not match Amazon at all.
If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. It never affects our verdicts or scores — how that works. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
No. Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee does not cover “pricing only available to select groups of customers including Membership Program members”, and Amazon describes Prime Big Deal Days, on 6 and 7 October, as “millions of deals exclusively for Prime members”. Walmart and Target do not match Amazon’s prices at all.
Every term here is from the retailer’s own policy page, read on 5 October 2026.
| Store | Matches Amazon? | Matches a Prime-only price? | Its own price drops after you buy |

| Walmart stores | No | No | Matches a Walmart.com price at checkout only |

| Target | No | No | Matched within 14 days of purchase |
Best Buy matches Amazon, but not a Prime price
Amazon is one of 19 retailers on Best Buy’s list of Qualified Competitors, alongside Walmart, Target and Costco. So an Amazon price is in scope, as a category.
The membership clause is what decides the event. Best Buy’s list of what the guarantee does not cover includes member pricing, “loyalty offers” and “discounts relating to non-warehouse membership or paid loyalty programs”. Prime is a paid membership and not a warehouse club. A price that only Prime members can get is outside Best Buy’s guarantee, by the policy’s own wording.
The policy also says the match is made “at the current pre-tax price available to all customers”, which points the same way.
Warehouse clubs are the contrast. Best Buy does match Costco, BJ’s and Sam’s Club, and its FAQ says that where a club’s website needs a membership ID or login to show the price, the match happens in store, against a live offer rather than a screenshot. The exclusion is written around non-warehouse memberships specifically.
Three more clauses that catch event deals
Third-party sellers. Best Buy excludes products “shipped from or sold by third-party sellers” on a competitor’s website, and its FAQ says that applies on “all other websites”. Its Qualified Competitors page words the same rule as “shipped from and sold by”; the policy’s wording is the stricter of the two. On Amazon, only a listing Amazon sells itself is a candidate.
Daily drops and limited stock. Amazon says this year’s Today’s Big Deals drop “three times daily” and are “available only while supplies last”. Best Buy’s exclusions name “special daily or hourly sales” and “items that are advertised as limited quantity”. Whether a particular deal falls under either is Best Buy’s call; the text does not settle individual listings.
Stock and identity. The competitor’s product must be new, “immediately available for shipping or Store Pickup”, and the same brand, model number and colour. Out-of-stock items are excluded, and a deal that sells out before you reach chat is no longer a live price.
The half that does work: Best Buy’s own price
If you buy from Best Buy and Best Buy cuts its own price during your return and exchange period, its policy says it will match that lower price on request. Its FAQ adds that you can do this more than once in that period.
There is a stronger version for orders not yet delivered: if Best Buy drops the price “at any time before its scheduled delivery date”, it says it will “refund 100% of the difference, including tax”. That one has to be requested by phone, at 1-888-BEST BUY.
Two limits apply to Best Buy’s own prices as well as a rival’s. Offers advertised as limited quantity, bundles and gift card offers are excluded “whether offered by us or a Qualified Competitor”. And Best Buy does not match its own My Best Buy member prices for non-members. How long your return period runs depends on your membership; the windows are compared here.
Walmart and Target match only themselves
Walmart splits its policy by channel, and neither half reaches Amazon. A Walmart store matches the identical item’s Walmart.com price, but lists “Competitor’s online or in-store prices” among what it does not match. Walmart.com does not price match at all, including “prices offered by competitors”.
Target matches a lower price found “at Target.com, in Target stores or with a Target Circle™ deal”, at purchase or within 14 days after. Asked whether it matches prices on comparison-shopping sites, its help page answers “No”. That is unchanged from what we found when we read its terms for Black Friday.
What to do this week
- Check the seller before anything else. If Amazon is not the seller, Best Buy’s guarantee does not apply.
- Check whether the price needs Prime. If it does, Best Buy’s policy excludes it.
- For a price open to everyone and sold by Amazon, ask while it is live: Best Buy chat or 1-888-237-8289 online, or show the offer to staff in a store.
- If you buy at Best Buy, keep watching Best Buy’s own listing until your return window closes. That is the claim the policy keeps open.
- Judge the deal against a number written down beforehand. We recorded the list price of our top pick in each category before the event started.
Questions people ask
Does Best Buy price match Prime Big Deal Days?
Not for prices only Prime members get. Best Buy’s policy excludes “pricing only available to select groups of customers including Membership Program members” and paid loyalty programmes, and Amazon describes the event’s deals as exclusively for Prime members.
Does Best Buy price match Amazon?
Yes, in general. Amazon is one of 19 Qualified Competitors on Best Buy’s list. The item must be identical, new, immediately available and sold by Amazon rather than a third-party seller, at a price available to all customers.
Does Best Buy price match Amazon third-party sellers?
No. Best Buy excludes products “shipped from or sold by third-party sellers” on a Qualified Competitor’s website, and its FAQ says the exclusion applies on BestBuy.com and all other websites.
Does Walmart price match Amazon?
No. Walmart stores match an identical item’s Walmart.com price at checkout, and list competitors’ online or in-store prices among what they do not match. Walmart.com does not price match at all.
Does Target price match Amazon?
No. Target matches its own lower price on Target.com, in a Target store or through a Target Circle deal, at purchase or within 14 days after. It says it does not match prices from comparison-shopping sites.
Will Best Buy refund the difference if its own price drops during Prime Big Deal Days?
Its policy says yes, on request, if Best Buy lowers its own price during your return and exchange period. The same exclusions apply, so a Best Buy offer advertised as limited quantity, a bundle or a gift card offer is not covered.
Does Best Buy match Costco or Sam’s Club member prices?
It matches warehouse clubs on its competitor list. If the club’s website needs a membership ID or login to show the price, Best Buy says the match is in store only, against a live offer rather than a screenshot.
How we researched this
No one at bitcritiq has handled this product. Everything here comes from published sources, listed below.
- What this cannot tell you
- This describes published policy in the United States on one date, not how a store agent applies it to a particular listing. We have not made a price-match claim at any of these stores. Whether a given Amazon deal counts as a “special daily or hourly sale” or as “limited quantity” is Best Buy’s judgement; the policy text does not settle individual listings. We did not read Amazon’s product pages, so this piece does not describe how a Prime-only price is labelled there. Best Buy says it may test the guarantee in select locations and amend the terms at any time. Nothing here is legal advice.
How we chose this, and what we did
- Why this subject
- Prime Big Deal Days runs on 6 and 7 October 2026, and the question it sends people to search for is whether a store they would rather buy from will honour the Amazon price. Each retailer publishes the answer in its own price-match terms. Our Black Friday piece covers Best Buy’s Thanksgiving blackout; this one covers the October event, where the deciding clause is a different one.
- How we looked at it
- Every term quoted comes from the retailer’s own pages, read in a browser on 5 October 2026: Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee (effective 2 September 2026), its Price Match Guarantee FAQ page and its Qualified Competitors page (effective 11 May 2025); Walmart’s price match help article and the Price Match section of its corporate Policies and Guidelines page (updated 8 June 2023); and Target’s Price Match Guarantee help page with its expanded policy text. What the event offers, and to whom, is from Amazon’s press release of 14 September 2026.
