Steam Deck Price Now: $789 or $949, and Only OLED
Valve raised both OLED models in May. No LCD Deck is sold new, and every refurbished unit was out of stock on 7 October.

A new Steam Deck (affiliate link to Amazon, opens in a new tab) costs $789 with 512GB or $949 with 1TB on Valve’s US store, and those two OLED models are the only Decks Valve sells new. Both went up on 27 May 2026, by $240 and $300 on the prices Tom’s Hardware reported before the rise.
The cheaper routes are closed for now. Valve sells no LCD Deck new, and on 7 October every refurbished Deck on its store, LCD and OLED, was out of stock.

Valve’s store and refurbished page, read 7 October 2026. The before prices are from Tom’s Hardware (27 May 2026) for the OLED and How-To Geek (20 December 2025) for the LCD; Valve’s own post gives only the new figures.
The two OLED models differ in more than storage. The 1TB adds etched anti-glare glass, a case with a removable liner and an exclusive startup movie and keyboard theme. Otherwise Valve’s buying panel lists the same screen, refresh rate, Wi-Fi and battery for both; what the Deck actually is covers the full specification.
Why the price went up
Valve’s announcement of 27 May says the Steam Deck OLED was “back in stock, with a price increase for both models due to rising memory and storage costs”, and that “Steam Deck itself hasn’t changed”. By Valve’s own account, the 512GB Deck on sale at $789 is the machine that sold for $549. It also means the Deck’s strong review scores in our comparison of handheld gaming PCs were written about a cheaper product than the one Valve now sells.
The store page carries a warning too: “Steam Deck OLED may be out-of-stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages.” Both US models were buyable on 7 October.
Valve’s post closes with “We’ll keep you updated if anything changes.” The Steam Hardware posts we found since then launch the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame; none of them changes the Deck’s price.
The LCD Deck is gone from Valve’s store
The “Choose your Steam Deck” panel lists two models, both OLED. The LCD still appears on the page, in a spec tab and in Valve’s note that the OLED is about 30g lighter, but not as something to buy.
The last new LCD was the 256GB model. How-To Geek reported on 20 December 2025 that Valve’s store then said: “We are no longer producing the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model. Once sold out, it will no longer be available.” It had been $399. That note has since gone, along with the model.
If you want an LCD from Valve, refurbished is the only listing, and none was in stock. We did not check other retailers, so this says what Valve sells, not what is left on any shelf.
Refurbished: listed, priced, unavailable
Valve’s Certified Refurbished page prices five Decks and marks all five “Out of stock”. The OLEDs are $629 and $759, which is the “up to 20%” saving the store advertises, against $789 and $949 new.
| Refurbished model | Price | Status, 7 Oct |
|---|---|---|
| 512GB OLED | $629 | Out of stock |
| 1TB OLED | $759 | Out of stock |
| 512GB LCD | $359 | Out of stock |
| 256GB LCD | $319 | Out of stock |
| 64GB LCD | $279 | Out of stock |
Valve says refurbished units are customer returns that pass its tests, so “available stock is limited and may fluctuate over time”, and it gives no restock date. They carry the same one-year warranty as a new Deck; Valve’s hardware return policy covers what happens inside the first 14 days. Valve’s FAQ also notes that GameStop’s refurbished Decks are refurbished by GameStop, with GameStop’s warranty, not Valve’s.
Prices outside the US
Valve’s 27 May post set the new prices in six currencies, VAT included where it applies. The UK and Canadian store pages showed the same figures on 7 October.
| Currency | 512GB OLED | 1TB OLED |
|---|---|---|
| US dollar | $789 | $949 |
| Pound | £649 | £779 |
| Euro | €779 | €919 |
| Canadian dollar | C$1,129 | C$1,349 |
| Australian dollar | A$1,199 | A$1,429 |
| Polish złoty | 3,279 zł | 3,879 zł |
In Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Valve’s page sends buyers to KOMODO’s website instead of selling directly.
What else costs money
Valve includes a 45W power supply and a carrying case with both OLED models. Its own Docking Station (affiliate link to Amazon, opens in a new tab) was listed at $79 and out of stock on 7 October; whether you need a dock at all depends on what you plug in, because the Deck drives a display over plain USB-C.
Questions people ask
How much is a Steam Deck?
On Valve’s US store, read 7 October 2026, a new Steam Deck OLED is $789 with 512GB or $949 with 1TB. Those are the only two models Valve sells new. Refurbished Decks are listed from $279, but every one was out of stock.
Why did the Steam Deck go up in price?
Valve raised both OLED models on 27 May 2026 “due to rising memory and storage costs”, and said the Deck itself had not changed. Tom’s Hardware reported the earlier prices as $549 and $649, so the rises were $240 and $300.
Can you still buy a Steam Deck LCD?
Not new from Valve. Its store lists only the two OLED models. Valve stopped producing the last new LCD, the 256GB, in December 2025, How-To Geek reported. Refurbished LCDs are listed at $279 to $359, but all were out of stock on 7 October.
How much is a refurbished Steam Deck?
Valve lists the 512GB OLED at $629 and the 1TB OLED at $759 refurbished, about 20% under new, and LCDs at $279, $319 and $359. On 7 October all five were out of stock, and Valve does not say when more will arrive.
Is there a new Steam Deck?
Not in Valve’s Steam Hardware news we read on 7 October. The newest Deck it sells is the OLED, and its 27 May post says “Steam Deck itself hasn’t changed”. The hardware launches since then were the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame.
How much is the Steam Deck in the UK?
£649 for the 512GB OLED and £779 for the 1TB, on Valve’s UK store on 7 October 2026, the prices Valve set on 27 May. Valve’s post also gives €779 and €919, C$1,129 and C$1,349, and A$1,199 and A$1,429.
How we researched this
No one at bitcritiq has handled this product. Everything here comes from published sources, listed below.
- What this cannot tell you
- Prices are one day's reading of Valve's US store and Valve has already changed them once this year. Valve's refurbished page lists prices for models it cannot sell, and it does not say when stock returns. We did not check retailers other than Valve, so a new LCD may still be on some shelf; we can say only that Valve does not sell one. We have not used a Steam Deck, and nothing here judges whether one is worth the money.
How we chose this, and what we did
- Why this subject
- Searches for “steam deck price”, “new steam deck”, “steam deck lcd” and “valve steam deck” were all rising in our Google Trends pulls. Our Steam Deck explainer covers specs without prices, and our handheld best-list mentions the May price rise inside a comparison of review scores. Nobody arriving with the plain question — what does a Deck cost now, and which one can I still buy — had a page that answered it.
- How we looked at it
- Valve's own pages, read through a browser on 7 October 2026: the Steam Deck store page (US, and with ?cc=gb and ?cc=ca for UK and Canadian prices), the Certified Refurbished page at store.steampowered.com/sale/steamdeckrefurbished, and the Steam Hardware announcement of 27 May 2026. Valve's post does not give the earlier prices, so those are reported, from Tom's Hardware's article of the same day. That the LCD is not sold new rests on the store's “Choose your Steam Deck” panel, which lists two models, 512GB OLED and 1TB OLED; the control is that the same page names the LCD elsewhere, in its spec tabs and in the line that it weighs more than the OLED, so the LCD is absent from the buying panel rather than from the page. The discontinuation of the last new LCD, the 256GB, is reported, from How-To Geek of 20 December 2025, which quotes a store note that is no longer on the page.
