ChatGPT’s Dots Agent Comes With Pro, From $100, Not Plus
Business Premium gets dots too. DevDay also added a $500 Pro tier, and new Pro 200 plans get less usage at the same price.

Dots, the always-on agent OpenAI launched at DevDay on 29 September, come with ChatGPT Pro, which starts at $100 a month, and with Business Premium. On those plans your first dot costs nothing extra; Free, Go at $8 and Plus at $20 do not include dots at all. Plus gets the day’s other headline launch, GPT-6.1 Sol, but only in ChatGPT Work and Codex for now.
The plans, as OpenAI lists them
| Plan | US price a month | GPT-6.1 Sol | Dots | Ultrafast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | No | No | No |
| Go | $8 | No | No | No |
| Plus | $20 | Yes (Work and Codex) | No | No |
| Pro 100 | $100 | Expanded | Yes | No |
| Pro 200 | $200 | Expanded | Yes | No |
| Pro 500 | $500 | Expanded | Yes | Yes |
“Yes”, “No” and “Expanded” are the words on OpenAI’s pricing page; it does not turn “Expanded” into a number. The pricing page shows Pro only as “from $100”; the three Pro prices are from OpenAI’s Help Center, which also says Pro is billed monthly, with no annual option. OpenAI’s DevDay recap puts Ultrafast on Pro 500 and Enterprise only.
Free and Go may also show ads, which Plus and the plans above it do not: who sees ChatGPT’s ads, and how to limit them.
What changed at DevDay
- A new top tier. Pro 500 costs $500 a month and, in OpenAI’s words, offers “25 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance” and access to Ultrafast, its faster speed tier.
- Pro 200 has less in it for new subscribers. The price is unchanged, but new subscribers who are not grandfathered get a lower usage allowance for the same $200. If you held Pro 200 at any point from 22 September to 10 a.m. Pacific on 29 September 2026, you keep the old allowance until 29 October; after that, the lower one applies.
- GPT-6.1 Sol on Plus and up — in two places. OpenAI says it is available to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and “not yet available in Chat”. The pricing page lists it as included on Plus without that qualifier; the launch post is the more specific of the two.
- Codex in the cloud reached Plus, Pro, Business and the education and enterprise plans. Space and Pages, the new shared workspaces, are Pro, Business and Enterprise only, so Plus does not get those either.
What a dot costs, and what it counts against
The first dot is included. OpenAI says your plan also carries “an allowance for deeper work, with extended limits for the first month after launch” — so the first month is a more generous trial than the months after it, by an amount OpenAI has not stated.
Two rules decide what eats your allowance:
- Conversations with your dot do not count toward your ChatGPT usage limits.
- Tasks your dot starts or manages in Codex or ChatGPT Work count as usual.
OpenAI also says that “in the future” you will be able to add more dots, and to buy each one more speed or more work per month. Neither the announcement, the Help Center nor the pricing page gives a price for that, though the same pages do print the Pro prices and the “no extra cost” terms for the first dot.
Speed costs allowance too. On Pro, OpenAI’s Help Center says Fast mode uses the included allowance at 2.5 times the standard rate, and GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast at 8 times.
Where you can get one, and how
- Pro: rolling out to markets excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK. A Pro subscriber in London or Paris pays for Pro and does not get a dot at launch.
- Business Premium: all supported ChatGPT regions.
- Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare: a beta, off until a workspace admin switches it on.
OpenAI says access is gradual and “may take several days” to reach an account. You create a dot in the ChatGPT desktop app or a desktop browser, not on a phone; once set up, you can talk to it in the mobile app. Texting a dot is a limited beta for some Pro users in the US.
Before you upgrade for it
Going from Plus to Pro 100 adds $80 a month. On OpenAI’s own comparison, that buys dots, Space and Pages, larger allowances described as “Expanded”, and a larger context window: 128K tokens on Pro against 54K on Plus for the instant model, which is how much of a conversation a chatbot can keep in view.
Two things to settle first. A dot reviews the apps you connect in the background and forms memories from them, and OpenAI’s help page says disconnecting an app does not delete what the dot already took from it; for that you reset the dot. And on personal plans, whether a dot’s conversations and work train OpenAI’s models follows the same control as the rest of ChatGPT — the setting we walk through in whether ChatGPT trains on your chats. OpenAI says it does not train directly on a dot’s background research or its notes to itself.
If ChatGPT is one bill among several, the rest of the household’s recurring costs are in everything in the house that needs a subscription.
Questions people ask
Is ChatGPT Dots free?
Not on the free plan. Dots need ChatGPT Pro, from $100 a month, or Business Premium. On those plans OpenAI says your first dot is included at no extra cost. Free, Go and Plus do not include dots.
Do I get Dots with ChatGPT Plus?
No. OpenAI’s pricing page marks dots as not included on Plus at $20 a month. Plus does get GPT-6.1 Sol, but only in ChatGPT Work and Codex for now; OpenAI says it is not yet available in Chat.
How much is ChatGPT Pro now?
OpenAI lists three monthly Pro plans: Pro 100 at $100, Pro 200 at $200 and Pro 500 at $500. All three include dots; only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast. Pro is billed monthly, with no annual option.
Why is Dots not available in the UK or EU?
OpenAI’s help page says dots are rolling out to Pro users in markets excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK. It does not give a reason or a date. Business Premium gets dots in all supported regions.
Did my Pro 200 plan change after DevDay?
If you had an active Pro 200 subscription at any point from 22 September to 10 a.m. Pacific on 29 September 2026, you keep the previous allowance until 29 October 2026. After that the lower allowance applies. The price stays at $200.
Do Dots use up my ChatGPT limits?
Conversations with your dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits, according to OpenAI. Tasks your dot starts or manages in Codex or ChatGPT Work do count, as they would if you started them yourself.
How we researched this
No one at bitcritiq has handled this product. Everything here comes from published sources, listed below.
- What this cannot tell you
- OpenAI describes most allowances in words — ‘Expanded’, ‘Limited’, ‘25 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance’ — rather than message counts, so we cannot say how much work a dot does before an allowance runs out, or how big the first month’s extended limits are. OpenAI has not priced extra dots. We could not load the Business pricing page, so this gives no Business Premium price. Prices are OpenAI’s US list prices; tax and other currencies are not covered. We have not used a dot.
How we chose this, and what we did
- Why this subject
- OpenAI announced dots, GPT-6.1 Sol and a new $500 Pro tier at DevDay on 29 September 2026, and changed what a new Pro 200 subscription includes the same day. The announcements are spread across a recap, two launch posts, the pricing page and two Help Center articles, and no single one of them answers the reader’s question: which plan do I need, and what does it cost.
- How we looked at it
- Everything here is from OpenAI’s own pages, read in a browser on 5 October 2026: the ChatGPT pricing page (including the per-plan values in its feature comparison), the DevDay 2026 recap, ‘Introducing dots’, ‘Introducing GPT-6.1 Sol’, the dots feature page, and the Help Center articles ‘About ChatGPT Pro tiers’ and ‘Getting started with your dot’.
