Snap Specs: $2,195, Four Hours a Charge, No Ship Date Yet

Snap Specs cost $2,195, and nobody can say yet when they arrive. Snap is taking a $200 refundable deposit in the US, UK and France and gives no ship date beyond later this fall. The deposit reserves a place; Snap’s own FAQ says it is not an order confirmation.

The price has two optional extras. A charging case with cellular brings the bundle to $2,395, and it needs a data plan that Snap says starts at $10 a month for Verizon customers and $20 for everyone else. Without it, the glasses connect over Wi-Fi or a phone’s hotspot.

Four hours is the number to plan around

Snap quotes up to four hours of mixed use per charge, and the case holds four more charges for up to 20 hours in all. That figure comes from Snap’s June release; the current product page describes the battery without a number.

Four hours of mixed use is a morning, not a day. The case matters more than it would for earbuds, because these are glasses: if you wear them for their lenses, putting them in the case to recharge also means taking them off your face.

What Snap does not say

For a $2,195 display you wear, the gaps are notable. Snap publishes a 51-degree field of view and a 7ms motion-to-photon latency, but no resolution, brightness or refresh rate, and it names two Snapdragon processors without saying which. Those are the figures that decide whether text is sharp and whether the image survives daylight, and until Snap publishes them or someone measures them, we cannot compare Specs with anything on paper.

Also unpublished:

• The price of prescription inserts. They come from partner companies, cover single-vision prescriptions from -8 to +2 only, and cannot be refunded.
• UK and French prices, and the EE and Orange data plans. Snap says details are to come.
• Whether calls and notifications pair with Android. Snap describes Bluetooth pairing for calls, notifications and music without naming a platform.

Specs Intelligence does not need the glasses

The AI assistant Snap announced alongside Specs runs on iPhone and Mac first. The iPhone app is a free, US-only preview for adults, limited to Gmail and Google Calendar insights; the fuller version is invitation-only early access on Mac. Before you put down a deposit

• The deposit is refundable until your order ships, and there is a 14-day return window after it arrives.
• Budget for the extras honestly. The cellular case is $200, and a plan at $20 a month adds $240 a year for anyone not on Verizon. That is one more line on everything in the house that now needs a subscription.
• Try them first if you can. Snap is opening demos at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles from 1 October.
