The Galaxy S26 FE starts at $699.99, $50 more than the S25 FE did, and most of what you get for it is a newer chip. Samsung lists the same 4,900mAh battery, 8GB of RAM, 6.7-inch 120Hz screen and rear cameras as last year’s FE. The changes are the Exynos 2500 and One UI 9 on Android 17.

Against the base Galaxy S26, the FE is $200 cheaper and makes a clear trade. It has the bigger battery and faster wired charging; the S26 has more RAM, a sharper telephoto and a lighter body.

Samsung’s charging figure is not settled. The global release says 69% in about 30 minutes, and so does the text of the US release, but the US spec table says 65%, which is what Samsung gave for the S25 FE. With the same 45W adapter, the honest reading is that the improvement is between nothing and four percentage points. The adapter is sold separately either way.

What the $50 buys

A newer chip. Exynos 2500 on a 3nm process, replacing the Exynos 2400 on 4nm. Samsung’s own performance claims are its own, and we have not tested either.
A year’s head start on software. The S26 FE is the first phone in the S26 range to launch with One UI 9. With seven years of updates promised from launch, it is also supported a year longer than an S25 FE bought today.
A wider selfie camera, 85° rather than 80°.

The S26’s $899.99 includes 256GB, so the like-for-like gap at 256GB is $100, not $200. For that, the S26 gives you 4GB more memory, a brighter and smaller screen, a better telephoto sensor and 26g less weight. The FE gives you 600mAh more battery and nearly twice the wired charging power.

Buy the 45W adapter separately if you want the charging speeds above; Samsung does not include one.

No one at bitcritiq has handled this product. Everything here comes from published sources, listed below.

What this cannot tell you: We have not used either phone. Samsung's pages disagree with each other twice: its US spec table gives the FE's charging as 65% in 30 minutes where its text says 69%, and its US comparison page lists a 2MP ultra-wide where both releases say 12MP; we use the releases and say so. Samsung's S25 FE release gives no 256GB price and no brightness figure, so we compare neither. Prices are US store prices on the day read.

Why this subject: Samsung's Galaxy S26 FE went on sale in the US on 4 September, and reviews from GSMArena, Engadget and Neowin followed this week; Engadget's headline calls it an incremental price hike for incremental updates. The buyer's question is what the extra $50 buys over last year's FE, and what the FE gives up against the base S26, and Samsung's own releases answer both.
